The Schlumberger High Performance Cluster at AUC

The Schlumberger Cluster (donated by Schlumberger Inc.) delivers high performance computing, grid infrastructure, very large data storage, and advanced visualization services through the School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo. It is a production cluster that provides cost-effective computational power to a wide range of scientific, engineering, and interdisciplinary applications. It is both a research and service facility. In addition to AUC’s community, it is also available to national universities and research centers from allover Egypt. Current applications running on the cluster range from molecular biology, to bio-medical, mathematical, computational sciences and finite element stress analysis. The cluster has also a grid infrastructure that provides access to Internet Grid engines through parallel scripts. The long-term goal of the cluster is to become an interdisciplinary facility for applied mathematics, high-performance computing, computational biology, and education in Egypt. Currently the Schlumberger Supercomputer facility supports computational science and engineering through the provision of both high performance computing infrastructure and expertise to AUC’s School of Sciences and Engineering researchers and students. Expertise is provided at all levels, from basic operational support to algorithm development and implementation and collaboration in research projects.
